Dr. Wasim Qazi, Executive Director IU is nowadays on his Post-Doctoral studies to Eastern Kentucky University, USA. In an interview given to EKU Newsletter, Dr. Qazi said, “we have drafted an agenda for the execution/implementation of agreement of institutional engagement between EKU and IU. Iqra University celebrated its No.1 ranking among private institutions, according to the CIEC (Charter Inspection and Evaluation Committee), by hosting a mega-concert featuring Ali Azmat and Noorie. The occasion took place on the eve of 14th May 2011 in Main Campus of Iqra University. The event started off with fireworks and cake cutting ceremony followed by a short speech by our Chancellor Hunaid Lakhani.

The concert came in full swing when Noorie (also known as the Pioneers of Pakistani rock music) hit the stage and stated off with their song Nishaan. The whole crowd of around 4000 students was on their feet! This was followed by Neend Aaye Na, Tum Hans Diye and Sohniye. The sight was definitely worth watching!

Mani and his wife made a surprise appearance too and joined the band for Suno ke Mein Hoon Jawan which was followed by Noorie’s Manwa Re and Coke Studio hit, Aik Alif. Noorie signed off with Dil ki Qasam amid cheers and protests from the students!

The crowd went high again as Ali Azmat (the lead vocalist of the band Junoon who later went solo) mounted the stage and started off with his musical Neend Aati Nahin. The crowd went wild when Ali tuned up for Mein Chala and Pappu Yaar Tung Na Kar. This was followed by the golden oldies Yaaron Yeh Doosti Hai, Yaar Bina Dil, and Khudi Ko Kar Buland Itna after which he tuned up for Bum Phata.

His Coke Studio adaptations of Garaj Baras, Sayonee, and Na Re Na followed after which he signed up with the Cricket World Cup song Jazba-Junoon where the crowd’s Josh was worth a sight.

The crowd was definitely wild till the end and did not seem to want the evening to come to an end! All-in-All it was definitely a memorable event and will go down in the history of IU! IU Rocks!!!!

Iqra University is rated as the Best University in Private Sector by the Charter Inspection and Evaluation Committee of the Governor of Sindh and the Committee also raised IU from a Five Star Institution to a Six Star Institution.

Private institutes: Iqra University ranked as top Private University

KARACHI: Iqra University has been ranked number one among all private institutions in the province, according to the Charter Inspection and Evaluation Committee (CIEC).

The committee’s report was presented to Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad, who is also the patron of all private universities, on Wednesday.

The committee ranked the universities on the basis of stars – the best institutes received six stars and the worst got only three.

The report also mentioned that the number of private, higher education institutions has increased from 18 to 25.

The number of students enrolled at these institutions has increased from 25,000 to 28,000 while the number of faculty members has increased from 2,300 to 4,000. The number of professors with a PhD has doubled to 300.
